Купальле ў нас традыцыйна сьвяткуюць у ноч з 23 на 24 чэрвеня. Але ў 2025 годзе так склалася, што я адзначыў ажно два Купальлі з розьніцай у тыдзень — абодва з вроцлаўскай суполкай сяброў. І, як заўсёды здараецца пасьля купальскай ночы, з галавы не выходзіла народная беларуская песьня «У нас сягоньня Купала» — тая, якую мы ня раз сьпявалі ноччу каля вогнішча і падчас пошукаў папараць-кветкі. Кветку, праўда, ніхто так і не знайшоў. А вось песьня знайшла мяне — і не адпускала.

Урэшце я вырашыў, што трэба зноў брацца за Suno і рабіць дабстэп-адаптацыю, каб песьня была са мною ня толькі пасьля Купальля, але і ўвесь год. Асобна хацелася гэтым разам паспрабаваць сумясьціць народнае харавое шматгалосьсе і цяжкія электронныя рытмы — каб купальскі карагод закруціўся ў віры басоў. Вынік перад вамі — песьня «Купала». Падаецца, атрымалася даволі нядрэнна 😊

Description

Kupálle, the Belarusian midsummer festival with roots deep in pagan times, is traditionally celebrated on the night of June 23–24: a night of bonfires, songs, and old rituals. It is from this festival that Janka Kupala, the national poet of Belarus, took his pen name.

In 2025 it so happened that I celebrated two Kupalles just a week apart, both with my community of belarussian friends from Wrocław, Poland. And, as always happens to me after a Kupalle night, one folk song refused to leave my head: «У нас сягоньня Купала» (U nas siahonnia Kupala — "Kupala Has Come to Us Today"), the one we sang more than once by the bonfire and while out searching for the fern flower — paparats-kvetka. Legend says this mythical bloom appears for one brief instant on Kupalle night only, and whoever finds it is promised fortune. Ferns, of course, never bloom at all — so no one has ever found it, which is rather the point. This year was no exception: nobody found the flower. But the song found me — and wouldn't let go.

In the end I decided it was time to fire up Suno, the AI music generator, once again — and make a dubstep adaptation, so the song would stay with me not only after Kupalle but all year round. This time I especially wanted to try fusing traditional Belarusian choral polyphony with heavy electronic rhythms — to set the Kupalle round dance spinning in a whirlpool of bass. The result is in front of you: the track "Kupała". Not bad at all, I'd say 😊
